I fear
This is what I have known
Since the beginning
No safety
The child knew it
Afraid to go out and play
To make friends who could be lost
The adult woman lived with it too
Afraid of every single moment ahead
She never wanted to know the future
It was dark
She knew she would remain alone and afraid
With no support
She will lose her house
And her job
And the worst fear of all
She would lose him
The only one on whom her life really depended.
She lived with the fear in her soul
Hidden behind small worries
Of aging, gaining weight, making money,
Being happy.
The fear would be only acknowledged
In difficult moments
Of sickness of despair
Whenever he was late
And didn't call
Then It would come to the surface
Jumping like a small child
Happy to be again needed.
She cursed the flesh eating fear
And asked It to leave
We cannot escape what we fear the most.
Is the Universe listening to us
Only when we derail?
What about when we pray on bloody knees
For something to be saved,
Is there anybody listening then?
